About this model
The Chaparral 2D was the closed-cockpit endurance racing version of Jim Hall's revolutionary Chaparral 2 sports prototype and one of the most advanced racing cars of the 1960s. Designed by Jim Hall and Hap Sharp, the 2D featured a pioneering molded fiberglass monocoque chassis with lightweight fiberglass bodywork, exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, and a mid-mounted all-aluminum Chevrolet 327 cu. in. (5.4-liter) V8 producing approximately 420 horsepower. Built specifically for long-distance endurance racing, the Chaparral 2D combined innovative engineering with remarkable performance and would later earn international acclaim with its victory at the 1966 Nürburgring 1000 Kilometers.
This Marsh Models 1:43 scale replica faithfully recreates the #11 Chaparral 2D driven by Jim Hall and Hap Sharp in the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring. Making its Sebring debut, the new coupe represented Chaparral Cars' latest effort to challenge Ferrari and Ford in international endurance racing. Hall and Sharp showed promising pace during the early stages of the race before mechanical problems brought their challenge to an early end, resulting in a disappointing DNF. Although the Sebring outing was short-lived, the experience proved invaluable in the continued development of the 2D, which would achieve its greatest success later that season with victory at the Nürburgring 1000 Kilometers.
Expertly handcrafted by Marsh Models, this limited-production 1:43 scale resin replica captures the sleek endurance-racing lines of the Chaparral 2D with exceptional accuracy. The distinctive white Chaparral livery, streamlined closed cockpit, aerodynamic fastback bodywork, Firestone-shod center-lock wheels, detailed cockpit, and authentic Sebring race markings are faithfully reproduced. Produced in limited numbers, this museum-quality model is an outstanding addition for collectors of Chaparral racing cars, Jim Hall innovations, World Sportscar Championship competitors, and classic American endurance racing.
