About this model
The Chaparral 2D was the closed-cockpit endurance racing evolution of Jim Hall's revolutionary Chaparral 2 sports prototype. Purpose-built for the 1966 World Sportscar Championship, the 2D featured an advanced fiberglass monocoque chassis with lightweight fiberglass bodywork, exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, and Chevrolet's all-aluminum 327 cu. in. (5.4-liter) small-block V8 producing approximately 420 horsepower. Innovative in both design and engineering, the Chaparral 2D represented one of the most technologically advanced endurance racing cars of its era and would later earn international acclaim with its victory at the 1966 Nürburgring 1000 Kilometers.
This Marsh Models 1:43 scale replica faithfully recreates the #12 Chaparral 2D driven by Jo Bonnier and Phil Hill in the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring. Qualifying eighth on the grid, the experienced international pairing entered the race among the favorites for overall victory. However, after sustaining damage during practice, the car developed a persistent oil leak that ultimately forced its retirement after just 27 laps. Although officially classified as a DNF, the Sebring race served as an important development event for the new 2D, which would go on to score a famous victory at the Nürburgring later that season with the same driver pairing.
Expertly handcrafted by Marsh Models, this limited-production 1:43 scale resin replica captures the sleek endurance-racing lines of the Chaparral 2D with exceptional accuracy. The distinctive white Chaparral livery, streamlined closed cockpit, aerodynamic tail section, Firestone-shod center-lock wheels, detailed cockpit, and authentic Sebring race markings are faithfully reproduced. Produced in limited numbers, this museum-quality model is an outstanding addition for collectors of Chaparral racing cars, Jim Hall innovations, World Sportscar Championship competitors, and classic American endurance racing.
