About this model
Spark Model MM337B18 McLaren M1A #18 All American Racers 'Dan Gurney' – Guards Trophy, Brands Hatch 1965
The McLaren M1A was the first customer sports racing car produced by Bruce McLaren Motor Racing and quickly established itself as one of the most successful sports prototypes of the mid-1960s. Built around a lightweight tubular spaceframe chassis with fiberglass bodywork, the M1A combined exceptional handling with the robust and powerful Ford 289 cubic-inch (4.7-liter) V8. Its versatility made it equally competitive in North American road racing and British sports car competition, where it became a favorite among both factory-backed and privateer teams. The M1A also marked the beginning of McLaren's long and successful history as a constructor of customer racing cars.
This Marsh Models 1:43 scale hand-built resin model faithfully reproduces the #18 All American Racers McLaren M1A driven by Dan Gurney in the Guards Trophy at Brands Hatch on 30 August 1965. Entered by All American Racers, Gurney qualified fourth for the prestigious British Sports Car Championship event and finished 4th in Heat 1 before retiring from Heat 2 with rear suspension failure. Under the Guards Trophy regulations, the combined result classified the car as a Did Not Finish (DNF). Despite the mechanical setback, Gurney demonstrated the impressive pace of the American-entered McLaren against Europe's finest sports racing machinery, helping establish the M1A's reputation on both sides of the Atlantic.
Expertly hand-built by Marsh Models, this finely detailed resin replica captures the sleek McLaren bodywork, authentic race markings, detailed cockpit, Halibrand-style wheels, and race-specific configuration from one of Dan Gurney's European sports car appearances. Produced in very limited numbers, it is an outstanding collectible for enthusiasts of McLaren racing history, Dan Gurney memorabilia, and handcrafted artisan model cars.

Historical Note
The 1965 Guards Trophy attracted many of the world's leading sports car drivers and manufacturers, making it one of Britain's premier sports car races. Dan Gurney's appearance with the All American Racers McLaren M1A highlighted the growing international reputation of both the McLaren marque and Gurney's team. Although suspension failure prevented a strong overall result, the race demonstrated the competitiveness of the M1A against established European rivals and helped pave the way for McLaren's later dominance in Can-Am competition with the M6 series.
