About this model
Entered by John Wyer Automotive Engineering, the Gulf-liveried Porsche 917LH #17 was driven by Jo Siffert and Derek Bell in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. The long-tail Porsche represented one of the fastest cars in the field and was designed specifically to exploit the immense straights of the French circuit. Bell and Siffert qualified third overall and were considered serious contenders for victory. Unfortunately, their challenge ended prematurely when engine problems forced retirement during the race.
