Unlike the Gulf-operated John Wyer entries, this car was campaigned by Porsche Konstruktionen Salzburg, effectively a second factory-backed effort. Elford and Ahrens were among Porsche's most experienced 917 drivers and showed impressive speed throughout practice and the early stages of the race. Unfortunately, mechanical problems prevented the pair from reaching the finish, and the car was classified as a retirement.
